USC Men Defeat UCLA in Swimming, 60-53

USC’s men swimmers took first place in 8 of 11 individual races Saturday, enabling the Trojans to defeat UCLA, 60-53, at USC’s Olympic Swimming Stadium.
UCLA shut out USC in both relay races, but Mike O’Brien won the 1,000-yard and 500-yard freestyle races, and David Cademartori won the 200-yard butterfly with only a 15-minute rest after placing second in the 200-yard individual medley.
Thomas Fahrner, 1984 Olympic bronze medalist, also had an important victory, in the 200-yard breaststroke.
The Bruins had a chance to tie in the next-to-last event--the 200-yard breaststroke--if they took the top two places. Instead, Steve Bentley and John Clark finished first and second for USC, clinching the meet for the Trojans.
