The first step in the long-awaited overhaul of the city’s Community Center Auditorium at 7630 S. Washington Ave. has been approved by the City Council. The council agreed to spend $5,000 on preliminary plans for remodeling the facility, which is just south of City Hall.
Manny Ocampo, director of human services, said the project may eventually cost close to $100,000 and could begin late this year. The facility, built in 1962, needs new lighting, an improved marquee, new lobby furniture, a paint job and soundproofing, among other things.
