Villa Park : Businesswoman to Fill City Council Vacancy
- Share via
The City Council has appointed Kathleen M. Barrish to the vacancy left by the resignation last week of Councilman Robert E. McGowan.
McGowan said he resigned because of the “accumulated stress” of the office combined with that of his job as a commercial airline pilot. McGowan, who had served on the council since 1980 and was in his second term, said he will continue to serve on the city’s aviation advisory committee.
Barrish, 44, a businesswoman, was chosen from four applicants for the seat. She will take the oath of office at the March 18 council meeting, City Manager Carolyn Veregge said. Barrish will serve the remainder of McGowan’s term, which expires in 1988.
Barrish, who moved to Villa Park eight years ago, is a former Los Alamitos councilwoman and planning commissioner.
