Western’s board rejected anti-takeover moves.

“The board considered several measures but decided to take no action at this time,” said Glenn Bozarth, a spokesman for the nation’s 11th-largest carrier. Last month, Western Airlines’ chairman and chief executive, Gerald Grinstein, said that the board was considering a number of possible takeover defenses and that Western had received inquiries from several suitors. Bozarth declined to say what takeover defenses were considered by the board or whether the board had considered any merger offers.
