Construction of a seven-story hotel, part of the city’s Centerpoint development, is expected to begin in mid-April.
Voting 5 to 0, City Council members last week gave approval for the 162-room hotel to be built at the corner of Valley View Street and Orangethorpe Avenue. Plans call for the $10-million hotel to be built by the Days Inn hotel chain.
When completed, the hotel is expected to generate about $200,000 a year in tax revenue, said acting City Manager Mary O’Neil.
Centerpoint is an $80-million business park being built by the Birtcher development company of Laguna Niguel. Birtcher began work on the 42-acre site about a year ago and is nearing completion on the first half of the project, according to Doug Anderson, the firm’s vice president.
Anderson said a four-story office building, four single-story buildings for high technology companies and several retail shops have been completed. Construction began last year on two of the three restaurants that will be in the project.
Construction on the next phase of the project will begin about October and will include three more buildings for high technology use and a mid-rise office building, the firm said.
