GLENVIEW — A 22-year-old El Cajon man was killed early Saturday when his car, which was stopped on the shoulder of Interstate 8, was struck by a pickup truck being driven by a suspected drunk driver, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Pronounced dead at the scene of the 3:06 a.m. accident was Randy Charles Towner, who was employed as a temporary warehouseman for Pacific Bell, the county coroner’s office said.
Towner, for unknown reasons, was parked on the shoulder of the westbound lanes near Los Coches Road in Glenview when his car was hit in the rear by the truck driven by Michael L. Ortmeier, 19, of Lake Marina, the CHP said.
CHP officers arrested Ortmeier on suspicion of drunk driving.
