Crawford High Fire Loss Put at $200,000

A Sunday evening fire at Crawford Senior High School had no effect on Monday’s classes, said Al Cook, a San Diego Unified School District official. He said classes began at 8 a.m. as usual.
The school’s administration building sustained an estimated $200,000 in damage, San Diego Fire Department officials said. There were no injuries.
Cook said that all 12 Crawford school officials whose offices were destroyed are temporarily operating out of classrooms. Officials should know within several days how long it will take to restore the building.
Twenty-five firefighters extinguished the fire at 4190 Colts Way within 20 minutes after it was reported at 5:55 p.m., Fire Department spokesman Larry Bellows said.
“Every room in that building was damaged, either through heat, smoke or water,” Bellows said. He also said that the fire was probably caused by arson.
“There was no accidental way this fire could have started. . . . . The offices were broken into,” he said.
