S. Africa Immigration Down, Emigration Up

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — Immigration to South Africa fell by 40% in 1985, while emigration was up 33%, the Central Statistical Service said Tuesday. It said those moving out of the country totaled 11,401 last year, compared with 8,550 in 1984, while those entering decreased from 28,793 to 17,284. The net gain in newcomers was 5,883, compared with 20,243 in 1984.
