Todd Yoshitake of Montebello fired a one-under par 71 on Thursday to take the first-round lead in the $22,000 Golden State Tour Spring Championship at Valencia Golf Course.
Yoshitake, who birdied the 16th and 18th holes, was the only player in the field of 88 to break par on the demanding 7,100-yard course.
One stroke off the pace entering today’s final round are Mickey Yokoi and Rusty Clark, both of Los Angeles.
Terry Myers of Sunnyvale is alone at 73, one shot ahead of Dave Russell of Canoga Park. Four other players are tied with Russell in fourth place.
Clyde Hughey of Van Nuys and John Dacey of Northridge are tied with two other players at 75. A double bogey on the final hole cost Dacey a share of third place.
The tournament offers a $3,000 first prize.
