Kathy Slaten pitched a no-hitter, Delanee Anderson made it 56 innings without giving up an earned run and Cal State Northridge softball Coach Gary Torgeson got his 200th win Thursday as the Lady Matadors swept a doubleheader with Augustana College, 1-0 and 4-0.
Slaten (6-3) had 15 strikeouts, but lost her bid for a perfect game when she walked a batter in the fifth inning.
Playing at home, the Lady Matadors scored the game winning run in the sixth inning. Center fielder Barbara Jordan, who had walked, scored from first on a throwing error by Augustana third baseman Joanne Ode.
In the second game, Anderson (7-1) pitched five scoreless innings before she was replaced by Desiree Molnar.
CSUN scored single runs in the first and second innings and added two more in the sixth to improve its record to 18-6. Torgeson, who has won three consecutive national championships, is in his fifth year as coach of the Lady Matadors.
“I was real surprised I was that close to 200,” Torgeson said. “It’s a neat feeling and it’s been a good group of players that have helped me achieve it as a coach. I hope I can get 300.”
