East German speed skaters Karin Enke and Andrea Schoene set world records in a competition with Soviet skaters at the Medeo high-altitude speed-skating rink near Alma Ata in Soviet Kazakhstan, the Soviet news agency Tass reported.
Enke, a three-time Olympic champion, set her third world record in two days with a point total of 168.272 in the all-distance event, improving on the previous mark of 171.760 set by Schoene at the same rink two years ago.
Schoene bettered her world mark in the 5,000 meters by nearly 12 seconds with a time of 7:20.99.
