Another 61 cases of AIDS were reported in Los Angeles County in February, bringing to 1,529 the total number of local cases of the deadly disease. Forty-one AIDS victims died last month, bringing the total death toll in the county to 821--or 53% of those now afflicted with the disease, said a report by Director of Health Services Robert Gates. Los Angeles County has the nation’s third-highest number of AIDS victims. It follows New York, which had 5,617 as of last week, and San Francisco, which had 1,990. All 61 of the new cases in Los Angeles County involved adults. The report said 47% of all confirmed AIDS victims are 30 to 39 years old and 72% are Caucasian. Most of the victims of the disease have been homosexuals.
