CORONA — A group of five people “partying” Wednesday afternoon in a small ravine in the lemon groves of southeast Corona discovered a partially decomposed, partially buried body, police said.
The five “found, in a shallow grave, the decomposed remains of what is believed to be a male adult,” said Lt. Bob Martin, commander of detectives for Corona police. The unidentified body was taken from the 4200 block of Gilbert Avenue to the Riverside County coroner’s office for investigation.
A deputy coroner estimated that the body had been in the crude grave for two or three months.
No cause of death was immediately apparent, Martin said. “We have no idea. It could be a shooting or a stabbing or an overdose. . . . It could have been natural causes; we have no way of knowing right now.”
Investigators will begin today to examine the body and clothing for indications of the cause of death and possible identification, he said.
“We think it is a male due to the clothing,” Martin said. The clothed body was wrapped in a sheet or blanket before burial.
