Marina del Rey : 1,000 Expected at Fish Derby

More than 1,000 fisherman are expected to take part in the Marina del Rey Anglers 12th Halibut Derby on April 12 and 13, according to Joseph Palazzolo, the group’s co-chairman.
About 500 small boats are expected, making the derby the largest fishing tournament on the California coast this year, Palazzolo said.
The anglers who catch the 30 heaviest fish will receive awards at a banquet at the Sea Lion restaurant in Malibu on April 19. The fish will be publicly weighed between 1 and 5 p.m. both days at the 76 Union fuel dock next to Fisherman’s Village, Palazzolo said.
