Pasadena : Armenian Memorial Set

Deputy City Manager Edward K. Aghjayan will deliver a city proclamation April 18 marking the 71st anniversary of the Armenian genocide. The ceremony will take place at a meeting of Pasadena’s Armenian community at 8:30 p.m. in the Armenian Center, 740 E. Washington Blvd.
Pasadena, with an Armenian population estimated at 15,000, is second only to Hollywood as the nation’s fastest growing Armenian community. Aghjayan, a second-generation Armenian-American, will share the dais with Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich and Archbishop Datev Sarkissian, Primate of the Western Prelacy of the Armenian Apostolic Church of America. Master of ceremonies will be Assembly Minority Leader Patrick Nolan (R-Glendale). A videotaped address by Gov. George Deukmejian will be shown.
The ceremony will commemorate the 1915 genocide of nearly two-thirds of the Armenian population by the Turkish Ottoman Empire.
