Mark Titchener, formerly of Crespi High and College of the Canyons, will miss the remainder of the season at Nevada Reno after injuring his left shoulder.
Until the injury, Titchener, a junior left-hander, was the Wolfpack’s most successful pitcher. His 5-1 record ranked him second in the West Coast Athletic Conference and his 3.86 earned-run average was 10th best.
Matt MacArthur of Master’s College has been named to the National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics’ All-District 3 baseball team. The senior shortstop hit .401 with 16 doubles, 5 home runs and 49 runs batted in this season. He also stole 28 bases in 28 attempts.
Master’s Coach John Zeller signed two recruits to scholarships this week. Eric Beagles, a shortstop from Ft. Ogelthorpe, Ga., hit .291 this season at Cleveland State in Tennessee, and Jeff Preston, who hit .586 at Ponderosa High in Placerville, Calif. Preston is a first baseman.
Off-road racer Glenn Harris of Camarillo, who won his first race of the Mickey Thompson Off-Road Grand Prix Championship series last weekend at the Rose Bowl, will enter his first outdoor race of the season: The SCORE/HDRA Mint 400 in Nevada.
Harris will take a break from his Class 7 Mazda light truck and co-drive with Ron Clyborne of Washington in Class 8 (modified full-sized pickup). The race, which winds around Las Vegas, begins this morning.
Motocross rider Johnny O’Mara of Simi Valley tries to improve his position in the American Motorcyclist Assn. Supercross standings, racing tonight in the 11th of 12 events at Phoenix. O’Mara, the 1984 Supercross champion, got off to a slow start this season because of a knee injury but has moved into third place in the standings behind points leader Rick Johnson of El Cajon. Both ride for Honda.
Yamaha rider Jim Holley of Woodland Hills is seventh in the AMA standings going into tonight’s race, while Suzuki’s A.J. Whiting of Burbank is 11th and teammate Erik Kehoe of Granada Hills is 13th.
The final Supercross event will be at the L.A. Coliseum on June 7.
