Whittaker will buy a Detroit chemicals company.

It will pay $23.7 million to buy Park Chemical Co., its fifth acquisition in the specialty chemicals industry in a year. Park, which in 1985 earned $2.1 million on sales of $22 million, will become part of Whittaker’s chemical group, which had sales of $120 million for its fiscal year ended Oct. 31.
