WASHINGTON — A taxpayer whose bank account is overdrawn because of an Internal Revenue Service error is eligible for reimbursement of up to $1,000, the IRS announced Tuesday.
The agency said that repayment will be available to a person or business whose account is erroneously levied against to satisfy a tax liability. A claim can be made either on a new Form 8546 or Form 5646 and must be filed within a year after the taxpayer is charged with the fee.
