Victor R. Weisser was named executive director of the California Public Utilities Commission, succeeding Joseph Bodovitz, who resigned April 30 to become president of the new California Fund for the Environment.
The executive director coordinates PUC staff operations, which include representing utility customers and ensuring compliance with commission orders. The PUC regulates the operations within the state of all privately owned utilities, including telephone, gas and electric companies, water districts, and rail, bus and ferry services.
Since 1981, Weisser directed the regulatory agency’s transportation division. Before joining the commission, Weisser was deputy chief of the state Department of Transportation’s division of transportation planning.
