UCLA easily won the national collegiate men’s all-sports championship as calculated by the Knoxville Journal on the basis of results in 10 different sports. The Bruins compiled 97 1/2 points to outdistance second-place Louisiana State, which had 72.
Texas’ Lady Longhorns won the women’s all-sports championship, announced earlier, while UCLA tied with USC for second place.
Texas was third in the men’s rankings with 66 points, followed by SMU (63 1/2), Arkansas (62 1/2), Oklahoma (62), Miami of Florida (58), Oklahoma State (54), USC (53 1/2) and North Carolina (52)
