Hazardous Chemical Fire Destroys Plant

A five-alarm fire involving a hazardous chemical destroyed a large commercial structure in Fountain Valley near Ellis Avenue and the San Diego Freeway Friday night.
The hazardous chemical involved in the blaze was not immediately identified, but a Fountain Valley police officer said it was “a carcinogenic material used in lining for underground pipes.”
No injuries were reported. The building contained the offices of San Con Engineering and two other firms, authorities said.
