10 Die in Southland Holiday Traffic

Ten people were killed in Southern California traffic accidents in the first 54 hours of the Fourth of July weekend and hundreds of motorists were arrested for allegedly driving while drunk, authorities said.
In addition, the California Highway Patrol reported that 20 people have died on the state’s highways since the start of the holiday weekend Thursday night. About 12 additional deaths have occured on city streets.
The CHP also reported arresting 450 suspected drunk drivers in Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties since the beginning of the holiday weekend. The same number were arrested in the same period last year, officers said.
