TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Training exercises for hundreds of Florida National Guard troops will now include action against drug traffickers, officials said Tuesday.
Guard patrols will track drug dealers and monitor potential drop sites for smugglers in a stepped-up war on narcotics within the state, said Major Gen. Robert F. Ensslin, the guard’s adjutant general. It is the first time any state National Guard has worked with civilian law enforcement to stop drug smuggling.
“It is an innovative way to get a bonus from training for National Guard units,” Ensslin said.
