A 24-year-old man accused of beating his pregnant wife to death last May with a rolling pin pleaded not guilty to one count of murder in Los Angeles Municipal Court. Earlier this week, Judge Samuel Mayerson dismissed the charge against Amer Bukhari in the slaying of his wife, Francen, 21, but prosecutors refiled the charge in hopes of persuading another judge that enough evidence exists to warrant a trial. No charges will be filed at this time in connection with the fetus the victim was carrying, Deputy Dist. Atty. Walt Tucker said. A preliminary hearing was set for Sept. 5.
