County : 45 New Cases of AIDS Reported in 2 1/2 Months

In less than three months, 45 new cases of AIDS have been reported in the county, a health official said Friday.
Jeanette Shelley, the county’s AIDS program coordinator, said 17 new cases of acquired immune deficiency syndrome had been found in the county in July and another 15 in August.
However, she said that 13 new cases were reported in only the first 18 days of September, bringing the total number of AIDS cases in the county to 284.
In Los Angeles County, 2,137 cases have been reported to date. Health officials there said Friday that 98 new cases had been reported in August.
