Deukmejian’s Stand on Prison in East L.A.
How will history remember George Deukmejian? As the man who humbly attended a public school as a child and brought a prison to East Los Angeles? Or one of a number of medieval governors who set back the progress of race relations in California? (Yes, we’ve had a few in our past.)
In either case, as a fitting tribute to the man I strongly suggest that we name the new prison after him so he won’t be easily forgotten.
