The University of San Diego’s football team tries to go 2-0 for the season today at 1:30 at La Verne College.
The Toreros opened the season with a 20-16 victory at Whittier College last week. Junior quarterback Pat Dixon threw two third-quarter touchdown passes to wide receiver Jeff Mansukhani. Then the Toreros’ defense held Whittier at the one-yard line in the game’s final minute to preserve the victory.
La Verne opened its season with a 27-9 loss to Azusa Pacific, ranked eighth in NAIA Division II.
USD opens its home season next Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. game against the University of Redlands.
