Community College Roundup : Rancho Santiago Runners Prevail

The Rancho Santiago men’s and women’s cross-country teams opened the Orange Empire Conference season with victories over Citrus in Bonnelli Park at San Dimes. Carlos Naba led the Dons to a 24-27 victory with a second-place finish. His time was 20:31 on the four-mile course. The women won, 27-28. Karen Berry (20:49) finished third and Shelly LeMay (21:12) was fourth on the three-mile course.
In other men’s Orange Empire action:
Cypress 24, Riverside 31--Trini Robles (23:55) led the Chargers.
In volleyball action:
Golden West Pool Play Tournament--Grossmont defeated the Rustlers twice, 15-7, 15-11, to win the four-team tournament. Susie Turner had 26 kills and 6 blocks for the Rustlers.
In water polo action:
Golden West in the Cuesta Tournament--The Rustlers advanced to the final round with a 18-2 victory over West Valley and a 21-7 victory over Ventura. Scott Larsen scored four goals in each game and David Duddman scored four against West Valley.
