El Toro Holds On to Top Spot in Poll

El Toro High School, for the second consecutive week, is ranked No. 1 in the Orange County Sportswriters’ Assn. weekly football poll. The Chargers are the first team to stay atop the poll for consecutive weeks this season. Westminster, Edison and Santa Ana have each been ranked No. 1 this season.
El Toro, led by quarterback Bret Johnson’s four touchdown passes, was impressive last week in a 37-14 victory over El Modena (1-3).
Troy, which beat Valencia, 8-7 Friday, made its first appearance in the Top 10. Third-ranked Saddleback plays Capistrano Valley Thursday in the week’s featured game.
