Cheetah Is First to Finish in Race to Cabo San Lucas

Ten of the 38 boats in Los Angeles Yacht Club’s Cabo San Lucas race finished Thursday as winds freshened along the Baja California Coast.
First to finish at 12:24 p.m. was Dick Pennington’s Peterson-66 Cheetah, Long Beach Yacht Club, with an elapsed time of 5 days and 24 minutes. Cheetah is a Performance Handicap Racing Fleet entry.
First International Offshore Rule boat to finish, at 1:50 p.m. was the Nelson-Marek 68 sloop Swiftsure III, John Reynolds, Los Angeles Yacht Club.
Both yachts won their respective classes.
The next three finishers were Kathmandu, John Landon, San Diego Yacht Club (IOR-A), 2:04 p.m.; Merlin, Donn Campion, Santa Cruz YC, (PHRF-A) 2:35 p.m; and Blondie Pat Farrah, LBYC (PHRF-A),3:06 p.m.
