Simi Valley Raises Trash Fees by 10 Cents

The Simi Valley City Council has voted to increase monthly trash collection fees by 10 cents, effective Jan. 1.
Deputy City Manager Bob Heitzman said most customers will be required to pay $8.35 per month. In the Monday action, council members also voted against increasing the $6.60 monthly rate for senior citizens.
According to Diane Davis-Crompton, the city’s director of human resources, the rate adjustment follows the city’s five-year franchise agreement with the local haulers, the American Simi Rubbish Co. and Anderson Rubbish Co.
Under the agreement, rates can be increased or decreased based on annual service evaluations, Davis-Crompton said.
“Rate adjustments are made by the application of a formula specified in the contract and determined by gasoline prices, dumping charges . . . overall quality of service and/or complaints,” she said.
