Stranded in Vienna for months, 900 Iranian Jews have been approved for emigration to the United States in the first three months of this year, U.S. Consul Carl McCallum said. The 900 are part of an estimated 1,200 to 1,300 Iranian Jews waiting in Vienna to resettle in the United States. They are part of a wave of Iranian emigrants who include Bahais, Armenian Christians and Muslims opposed to the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s Islamic fundamentalist government. In the first nine months of 1986, 740 Iranian Jews were approved for resettlement.
