Aussies Call Off Sharon Visit as ‘Inconvenient’

CANBERRA, Australia — The Australian government Thursday called off a planned visit by Israeli Minister of Trade and Industry Ariel Sharon, saying it would be “too inconvenient.”
The action followed public controversy and a warning from Australia’s Arab community of possible violent demonstrations against Sharon--who was Israeli defense minister at the time of the Beirut refugee camp massacres by Lebanese Christians in 1982.
