Capote, the 2-year-old champion thoroughbred, leads the 398 early nominations for the Triple Crown, which for the first time is trying to lure horses with a $5-million bonus for winning all three races.
Capote, a son of Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew, is one of 17 horses nominated by California trainer Wayne Lukas for the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes.
The first nomination deadline was Jan. 15. The second and costlier deadline is March 15.
