There are a few exquisite moments in this 57-minute documentary--including a high-voltage excerpt of Tina Turner’s epic “River Deep, Mountain High” and a slice of Janis Joplin’s smoldering “Summertime.” But the jolting intensity of those performance clips only underscores the listlessness elsewhere. Brenda Lee, Carole King and Exene Cervenka are among those interviewed, but the remarks are rarely revealing, and they aren’t woven together in a way that adds to your understanding or appreciation of the struggle of women to overcome their underdog status in rock.
