Amwest Insurance Posts Quarterly Gain of 89%

Amwest Insurance said its fourth-quarter net income rose 89% from the same period in 1985, to $654,000, or 36 cents a share. In the quarter, the Woodland Hills company’s earned premiums, a financial measure similar to operating revenue, rose 39%, to $4.3 million.
Amwest’s net income rose 79% from the previous year, to $2.1 million, or $1.16 a share. Earned premiums climbed 34%, to $14.7 million. Amwest specializes in writing surety bonds for bail bondsmen and contractors, among others.
