Three senators resumed efforts to curtail American smoking habits, aiming attacks at the pocketbooks of tobacco companies and their customers. The senators, led by Democrat Bill Bradley of New Jersey, reintroduced three bills targeting sales and advertising of cigarettes and smokeless tobacco. Separately, the bills would double federal taxes on tobacco products, raise the price of cigarettes on military bases and end tax deductions for tobacco advertising.
