Women’s Basketball Roundup : Cal State Los Angeles Upsets Cal Poly Pomona, 78-63

Cal State Los Angeles upset Cal Poly Pomona, the top-ranked women’s Division II basketball team, 78-63, Friday night at Cal State L.A.
The Golden Eagles’ win snapped the Broncos’ 46-game win streak over Division II opponents. It also ended Pomona’s 32-game streak over California Collegiate Athletic Assn. teams. The Golden Eagles, who were led by Lupe Quintana’s 22 points and 13 rebounds, hadn’t beaten Pomona in 26 tries, dating back to 1974.
It was only the third-ever CCAA loss for Pomona.
Quintana, a 6-foot sophomore center from Lincoln High, helped the Golden Eagles (16-7 overall, 4-4 in CCAA play) outrebound the Broncos, 52-33. She also made 11 of 14 shots from the field.
Debra Larsen scored 16 points to lead Pomona (20-2, 7-1).
USC 105, California 63--Cherie Nelson scored 25 points and Monica Lamb added 21 to lead the Trojans past the Bears in a Pacific 10 game at USC.
The Trojans, avenging a 102-85 loss to Cal earlier in the season, improved to 15-6 and 9-2. Cal fell to 9-11 and 3-3.
