South Bay : Search for College President

El Camino College has hired an executive search firm to help find a successor to President Rafael Cortada, who resigned effective Aug. 23 to head the University of the District of Columbia in Washington. The college will pay Glenn Gooder Associates of Fremont, Calif. a maximum of $10,000 plus expenses to conduct the nationwide search and screen candidates.
College officials said applications and nominations will be accepted until May 1 and trustees expect to name a new president by July 1. A nine-member committee representing the college staff, students and the community will assist in the selection process. The successor to Cortada, who has held the post since 1982, will be the fourth president in the college’s 40-year history.
