MCA said that film maker Steven Spielberg will serve as creative consultant for the company’s new Florida studio tour, scheduled to open in 1989.
Three of Spielberg’s most successful films--”Jaws,” “E. T., the Extra-Terrestrial” and “Back to the Future”--were directed or produced for MCA, based in Universal City.
MCA President Sidney J. Sheinberg said the new Florida theme park will offer attractions based on those three movies, and added that the new relationship “contemplates (Spielberg’s) participation as a consultant in other areas, as well as the theme park area.”
Since 1984, Spielberg has run his Amblin Entertainment company out of a $6-million complex on the Universal lot, even though he continues to make movies for a variety of studios.
