LONG BEACH — John Kasser is leaving as athletic director at Cal State Long Beach to become the associate executive director of the College Football Assn.
Kasser, 49, will supervise production of college football telecasts on CBS and assist in the development of marketing and promotions for the CFA, a group of 63 colleges with major football programs. The CFA made the announcement Tuesday at its headquarters in Boulder, Colo.
Kasser, who directed the December drive that raised $300,000 and saved 49er football, came to CSULB in 1984 from the University of Houston. His resignation came a day after basketball Coach Ron Palmer announced he is leaving and 10 weeks after football Coach Mike Sheppard took a job at the University of New Mexico.
