Local News in Brief : Council Votes to Extend Encino Parking District

The expansion of a preferential parking district in Encino from 18 to 40 blocks won unanimous approval from the Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday, clearing the way for future restriction of daytime parking to the area’s residents only.

The council agreed to apply the preferential parking designation to the area bounded by the Ventura Freeway on the north, Ventura Boulevard on the south, the San Diego Freeway on the east and Woodley Avenue on the west. It is intended to deter office workers, shoppers and other non-residents from parking on the designated side streets.

The parking restrictions will not be implemented automatically. They will be enforced on a block-by-block basis if two-thirds of the a block’s residents sign petitions endorsing them. If that occurs, only vehicles with special permits would be allowed to park from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
