Janusz Onyszkiewicz, a leading figure in Poland’s Solidarity union movement, said he was detained by security police for four hours before meeting visiting Spanish Foreign Minister Francisco Fernandez Ordonez. Onyszkiewicz arrived about 90 minutes late for a meeting at the Spanish ambassador’s residence in Warsaw, and informed sources said the Spanish Embassy had intervened on his behalf. Onyszkiewicz said police told him he was being held in connection with alleged plans for a demonstration in the Polish capital in support of the Charter ’77 Czechoslovak dissident movement.
