Retail Sales Jump in February

NEW YORK — The gray days of February brought unexpectedly strong sales to the nation’s largest general retailers, the companies reported today.
Sears, Roebuck and Co., the nation’s largest retailer, said its sales rose 4.9% last month over sales in February, 1986. K mart Corp. said its sales jumped 13.1%. Fast-growing Wal-Mart Stores Inc. reported its overall sales jumped 44%, while May Department Stores Co. said it saw a 15% sales rise.
