Cal State Long Beach, which lost a football coach in December and a basketball coach Monday, is now without an athletic director.
John Kasser, 49, who has been athletic director at Long Beach since 1984, has accepted a job as associate executive director of the College Football Assn.
Kasser’s resignation came a day after basketball Coach Ron Palmer quit and and 10 weeks after football Coach Mike Sheppard left for the University of New Mexico. In December, Kasser directed a drive that raised $300,000 to save the 49er football program.
Kasser, who said his move was not related to Palmer’s resignation or the university’s financial problems, will supervise production of college football telecasts on CBS and assist in the development of marketing and promotions for the CFA, a group of 63 universities with Division 1-A football programs.
