San Diego Section Soccer : Poway Boys Defeat Bonita Vista in Overtime

The Poway High School boys’ soccer team got its revenge Wednesday night when it defeated Bonita Vista, 1-0, on Eamon Kavanaugh’s overtime goal in a San Diego Section 3-A semifinal at Hilltop High.
Bonita Vista had handed Poway (18-1-5) its only loss of the season, a 3-0 defeat in the second round of the La Jolla tournament.
“We really wanted to go out and prove something,” said Coach Bob Champion of Poway.
Poway will play Valhalla, a 2-1 winner over Madison, for the championship Saturday at 6 p.m. at Southwestern College.

Girls
Valhalla 2, Poway 1 (shootout)--Valhalla (19-3-1) made all four of its shots in the tie-breaking shootout, and goalkeeper Janal Urich stopped all but one of Poway’s four attempts to decide the game. Poway ended 19-3-3.
Bonita Vista 1, Mira Mesa 0--Laurie Christiansen’s goal in the second half led Bonita Vista.
In the 3-A final, Valhalla will play Bonita Vista at 8 p.m. Saturday at Southwestern College.
