Canadian downhill skier Liisa Savijarvi suffered severe injuries to her back and right leg in a fall during a World Cup downhill training run at Vail, Colo.
Savijarvi apparently lost her line and was launched off a bump in a section of the Vail course called the roller-coaster. She crashed and had to be taken off the mountain on a stretcher.
Hospital officials said she suffered a fracture of the thoracic spine, broke her thigh bone and dislocated her knee. She was transferred to Denver’s St. Anthony Hospital, where she was scheduled to undergo a CAT scan.
