Av Westin, vice president for program development at ABC News, is returning to work. He had been suspended Feb. 26 by ABC News President Roone Arledge for going outside channels by circulating within the news division a lengthy memo highly critical of Arledge’s management and “World News Tonight.” Westin also sent the memo to top brass at Capital Cities-ABC Inc. Westin held a private meeting with Arledge on Tuesday. He will become executive producer of the network’s three-hour prime-time special on the U.S. Constitution. Westin conceived the special which will air in September. He may also take over the occasional “Jennings-Koppel Reports” next year, but he will not be returning to “20/20.”
