Hardman Gets 10 Days in Jail After Pleading Guilty to Arrest Charge

Former professional football player Cedrick Hardman has been sentenced to 10 days in jail after pleading guilty to resisting arrest.

Hardman, 38, pleaded guilty before South Municipal Court Judge Pamela L. Iles on Tuesday. Deputy Dist. Atty. David L. Brent, who prosecuted the case, said Hardman will serve his sentence at County Jail in August.

Hardman lost his job as head coach at Laguna Beach High School after he was charged with cocaine possession in the same incident. The cocaine charges were dropped after he successfully completed a drug diversion program.

The charges stemmed from an incident last Sept. 20 when Hardman was stopped on Laguna Canyon Road by Laguna Beach Police Officers Debbie Chang and Robert Reyhaeuser. The officers testified that they struggled with Hardman after they noticed a bag of white powder in his car and asked permission to search the vehicle.

The judge also placed Hardman on three years’ informal probation and ordered him to make restitution to Chang, who testified that she is still undergoing therapy for neck and back injuries.

Hardman played professionally with the San Francisco 49ers and the then Oakland Raiders.
