‘Texas Does It Slowly’

The Times editorial (“Texas Does It Slowly,” July 26) on the execution of Elliot Rod Johnson was consistent with The Times’ views on the subject. This one however, only dwelled on the method of execution, lethal injection, and not the application of the death sentence in this case. So it took the technician 35 minutes to find a vein which was intact to accept the needle for the lethal drip solution. Not until we have a murder rate consistent with nations that have banned capital punishment, and until we stop releasing “life without parole” convicts to commit more crimes, can we seriously look at abolishing capital punishment.
